Boston Partner’s Celebration Breakfast Great Success

This year’s Partner’s Celebration Breakfast was a resounding success. Over $70,000 was raised to support YMCA Education and Training programs.

Held at the Seaport Boston Hotel on May 17th, the Breakfast was attended by nearly 200 of YMCA Training, Inc.’s close corporate partners. Headlining the event was keynote speaker State Treasurer Steven Grossman, who captivated the audience with a speech emphasizing the importance of job training programs in statewide economic growth. Treasurer Grossman outlined his office’s commitment to low-income communities and the need for expanded financial and employment opportunities in these communities.

YMCA Training, Inc. is particularly grateful to this year’s lead sponsor, Eastern Bank and Eastern Insurance and to Hollister, the recipient of our Employer of the Year Award, for their commitment to our trainees and graduates. In the last year, four Training, Inc. graduates have joined the Hollister team.

New Hospitality Training Initiative in Newark

Essex County College Training, Inc. has begun offering a new Hotel Hospitality program. The program began with a conversation in Newark Councilman Donald Payne Jr.’s office and in collaboration with the Hanini Brothers, who are rehabilitating an old, vacant building in downtown Newark into a hotel. This hotel, which will be operated by Crestline and fall under the Hotel Indigo brand, is expected to hire many Newark residents. To help facilitate this, Training, Inc. was asked to train Newark residents referred by the city’s One-Stop Center. Once the graduates leave Training, Inc., they will undergo “brand” training by Indigo, followed by hotel training by Crestline. The new downtown hotel is expected to open in mid-October.
